Primer “Aquaprime”

Type:  Primer is a suspension of pigments, fillers and special additives in an aqueous dispersion based on synthetic polymers.

Scope:  Primer “Akvapraym” is intended for priming products from iron or steel casting, metal surfaces of products and structures under the coating of various enamels: ML, EP, PF, XC, XB, AS, VD-AK, UR, powder materials, and also for temporary corrosion protection in a single-layer coating of metal products for the period of installation and storage.

For Consumers using the airless or combined application Methods, primers are Manufactured with a conditional Viscosity of AT Least 200 s using an OZ-type viscometer of 246 with a nozzle diameter of 6 mm (to be specified when ordering) .

Advantages : The primer provides anticorrosive protection for steel and cast iron surfaces. It forms a high-quality, durable, elastic, oil-, water-, petrol-resistant coating that can be sanded. Dries quickly in natural conditions. Virtually odorless.

Surface preparation. The metal surface is cleaned of rust, scale and other contaminants that affect the quality of surface preparation, cleaned, dedusted, degreased with 1% detergent solution, washed with water and dried. Acetone degreasing is allowed. The surface to be painted must be dry. It is most thoroughly necessary to clean the surface in the weld zone up to 3 cm wide from residues of fluxes, alkaline slags and oxides formed during welding. If necessary, weld area up to 3 cm wide before painting should be treated with an additional layer of primer (paint over with a brush). To improve the protective properties, it is recommended to pre-clean the surface with sandblasting or shot blasting to a degree of cleaning from oxides 1 – 2 (GOST 9.402) and apply a primer to the surface no later than 4 hours after its preparation.

The previously painted surfaces are cleaned of the fragile layers of the old coating, the peeled off old coating is removed, the entire surface is mechanically cleaned, dedusted, degreased and dried.

The primer is applied to the surface at a temperature not lower than 15 ° C and relative air humidity (65 ± 5)%. It is allowed to apply a primer at a temperature not lower than 5 ° C and a relative humidity of not more than 80%, followed by drying at a temperature of (62 ± 2) ° C. The metal temperature should be at least 3 ° C above the dew point temperature.

Coating : Primer “Aquaprym” is applied to the surface using pneumatic, airless, combined spraying, dipping or brushing.

Before use, the primer is thoroughly mixed, if necessary, filtered and diluted with water.

Recommended primer viscosity depending on the method of application:

– method of pneumatic spraying – 26 – 32 s according to VZ-246 viscometer with a nozzle diameter of 4 mm at a temperature of (20.0 ± 0.5) ° C;

– dipping – 18 – 22 s by VZ-246 viscometer with a nozzle diameter of 4 mm at a temperature of (20.0 ± 0.5) ° C.

– airless spray, combined spray and

brush – with the original viscosity. If necessary, diluted with water in an amount of not more than 10% by weight of primers.

The consumer independently selects the working viscosity depending on the working conditions (ambient temperature in the room, the diameter of the spray nozzle, the working pressure of compressed air, etc.).

The primer is applied in one to two layers with drying each layer for at least 1 hour at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C and a relative humidity of air (65 ± 5)%. Drying time depends on the temperature and humidity of the air, the intensity of air exchange at the painted surface. It is allowed to carry out drying at a temperature of (62 ± 2) ° C for at least 20 minutes.

The recommended thickness of the dried single-layer coating is 20 – 30 microns. After sandblasting or shot blasting, the thickness of the coating should be increased, taking into account the roughness Ra. Increasing the thickness of the coating improves the protective properties of primers. It is possible to overcoat primers with other paints and varnishes after hot drying after 1 hour, after natural one — no earlier than after 24 hours of aging at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C and relative humidity of air (65 ± 5)%.

Primer consumption  on a single-layer coating – 60 – 90 g / m² without taking into account the complexity of the painted surface, its preparation, product configuration, application method, color of primers, personnel qualifications and other factors.

Storage: The  primer is stored in a tightly closed plastic container at a temperature of from + 5 ° C to plus 35 ° C. Exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight is not allowed. In winter, the primer is transported in insulated transport.

Precautionary measures:  Primers are fire and explosion proof.

Personal workmanship should be provided with personal protective equipment (workwear, goggles, rubber gloves). Contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin, rinse with plenty of water.

The dried coating does not adversely affect the human body.
