Priming enamel «Primecoat Т»

Type:  Quick-drying single-component primer-enamel based on alkyd modified resin with the addition of high-quality anti-corrosion pigments and fillers, as well as functional additives, desiccant and solvent.

Scope:  Primercoat T priming enamel is recommended for painting products that are subject to increased demands on the corrosion resistance and durability of the paint and varnish coating used in industrial conditions and is intended for application by airless or combined spraying.

Benefits:

– the  primer enamel coating dries quickly;

– the  high quality of the pigment-primer enamel gives the resulting coating excellent decorative properties – a smooth matte surface is formed;

–  primer-enamel has excellent adhesion to metal;

–  due to the specially developed binder formula and the content in the composition of the anticorrosive protection of ferrous metal products operating at temperatures from minus 60 ° C to plus 100 ° C in various climatic conditions;

– the  thickness of the dried single-layer coating is not less than 70 microns;

– a  two-layer primer-enamel coating replaces a comprehensive coating consisting of one layer of primer and two layers of enamel;

–  soil-enamel forms a weatherproof, waterproof, salt-resistant mineral oil coating;

–  primer-enamel one-component, has good painting properties.

The above advantages maximally simplify the process of painting metal surfaces.

Surface preparation : The service life of the paint coating with long-term preservation of decorative and anti-corrosion properties largely depends on the degree of surface preparation of the painted product. The preparation of the surface of the product for painting with primer-enamel is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the technical regulations on the product, GOST 9.402 or STB ISO 12944-4.

Oil, grease, marking paint, dirt and other substances, such as mineral contaminants, water-soluble salts that affect the quality of surface preparation, should be removed from the metal surface. It is necessary to remove incisions, burrs, welding spatters, round sharp edges, corners, teeth and welding seams. Then the surface should be thoroughly cleaned of rust, scale and other contaminants, dust-free, degreased and dried. It is most thoroughly necessary to clean the surface in the weld zone up to 3 cm wide from residues of fluxes, alkaline slags and oxides formed during welding.

To improve the protective properties of the surface, it is recommended to pre-clean the sandblasting or shot blasting to the degree of cleaning oxides 1 – 2 according to GOST 9.402.

Painting should be done no later than 4 hours after surface preparation. Coloring is not allowed during precipitation, as well as on wet and icy surfaces.

On the welds, end edges and hard-to-reach spots, prior to painting, primer-enamel is applied with a brush in the form of a “strip layer”.

The previously painted surfaces are cleaned of the fragile layers of the old coating, the peeled off old coating is removed, the entire surface is mechanically cleaned, dedusted, degreased and dried. If the type of the old paintwork is not known, it should be checked for compatibility (it is recommended to carry out a control painting of a small part of the surface). In the case of puffing or peeling, the old coating must be removed.

To avoid moisture condensation, the temperature of the surface to be painted should be above the dew point temperature by at least 3 ° C.

Reducing the quality of surface preparation leads to a decrease in the service life of the coating.

Coating:  Before use, primer enamel is thoroughly mixed, if necessary, filtered. Primecoat T priming enamel is applied by airless or combined spraying, and in small areas – with a brush.

The use of solvent AK (TU BY 500021625.201), xylene (GOST 9410), orthoxylene (TU BY300042199.015), oil solvent (GOST 10214) in an amount of not more than 5% by weight of the soil enamel is allowed. Soil-enamel is applied in one – two layers on a previously prepared surface at a temperature of 5 – 35 ° C and a relative humidity of not more than 80%. Drying of each layer is at least 2 hours at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° С and relative humidity of air (65 ± 5)%.

The recommended thickness of the dried monolayer coating is not less than 70 microns, and after sandblasting or shot blasting the thickness of the coating should be increased taking into account the degree of roughness Ra. With a change in temperature and relative humidity of the air, the drying time of the primer-enamel increases.

A two-layer primer-enamel coating replaces the coating consisting of one layer of primer and two layers of enamel.

The drying time of a single-layer coating depending on the temperature is given in the table.

Name of the indicator Surface temperature
5 ° С 10 ° С 20 ° С
1. Drying time of coating to the disappearance of tack-free, min 80 60 50
2. Drying time to degree 3, h 3 2.5 2
3. Minimum drying time of the coating required before applying the next layer, h 3 2.5 2

The thickness of the dried single-layer coating is 60 – 70 microns.

The consumption of  soil – enamel on a single-layer dried coating is 210 – 250 g / m² without taking into account the complexity of the painted surface, surface preparation, application method, color of the soil – enamel, staff qualifications and other factors.

Service life : Primercoat T enamel coating with a thickness of 140-150 microns, applied to a metal surface retains protective and decorative properties in a moderately cold climate for at least 15 years, in tropical climates – at least 3 years.

Precautionary measures:  when carrying out painting works in the enclosed space, and also after their termination careful airing is necessary. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Storage: Store  the enamel in a tightly closed container, protecting it from moisture and direct sunlight, away from heating devices, out of the reach of children. Keep away from fire. In the case of storage at low temperatures, the primer enamel is kept in a warm room for at least 24 hours before application.
