Soil enamel on rust quick-drying

Type:  Primer rust enamel is a suspension of anticorrosive pigments and fillers in a synthetic resin with the addition of special additives and a rust converter.

Scope: The  primer enamel on rust quick-drying is intended for painting rusty or partially corroded metal surfaces with a thickness of tightly adhering rust up to 100 microns (0.1 mm). Soil-enamel rust is used for painting surfaces that are difficult to clean from rust for the following reasons: large dimensions of the product, a complex profile of the treated surface, lack of time, etc. Primer enamel rust is recommended to be used in the repair of old metal structures with remnants of old paintwork and rust.

Benefits:

does not require special preparation of the metal before painting, i.e. prior removal of rust firmly bound to metal;

contains in its composition a mixture of anticorrosive pigments that reliably protect the metal surface from corrosion;

due to the effect of 3 to 1, instead of three layers of different types and purpose of materials (rust converter, primer and enamel) only one material is applied, which combines all the properties, both protective and decorative, which simplifies the process of painting metal surfaces, saving money and time;

possesses good painting properties;

dries quickly in natural conditions, forms a high-quality matte finish;

possesses excellent adhesion to metal;

the coating is resistant to temperature changes from minus 60 ° С to plus 60 ° С, while it does not lose its elasticity;

has excellent resistance to water;

It has a fairly low flow rate with high coverage.

Surface preparation:

Before applying the primer-enamel rust, the metal surface is cleaned from dust, dirt, oils, loose rust, scale and flaking old coating, dedusted, degreased and dried thoroughly. On the prepared surface tightly adhering rust thickness up to 100 microns (0.1 mm) is allowed.

When applying the primer enamel rust on the old coating it must be cleaned to a matte surface. The boundaries between the cleaned surface area and durable paint coating are polished to a smooth transition and cleaned of dust. If the appearance of the old paintwork is unknown, it should be checked for compatibility (it is recommended to carry out a control painting of a small surface area). In the case of swelling or peeling, the old coating must be completely removed.

Soil – enamel rust is applied at temperatures ranging from + 5 ° C to + 30 ° C and a relative humidity of not more than 80%. Coloring is not allowed during precipitation, as well as on wet and icy surfaces.

To avoid moisture condensation, the temperature of the surface to be painted should be above the dew point temperature by at least 3 ° C.

Coating:  Rust enamel over rust is allowed to be applied by airless spraying and a brush with an initial viscosity.

 Before using the primer-enamel rust thoroughly mixed, if necessary, filtered and applied to a previously prepared surface by means of pneumatic spraying, airless spraying or, in small areas, with a brush. When applied by the method of pneumatic spraying, primer enamel on rust is diluted with solvent R-204 (TU BY 500021625.204), toluene (GOST 14710), orthoxylene (TU BY 300042199.015) or solvent
(GOST 10214) in an amount up to 30% by weight of primer enamel rust, and when applied by airless spray and brush – in an amount of not more than 5% by weight of primer enamel rust.

The consumer independently selects the working viscosity depending on the production conditions (ambient temperature in the room, the diameter of the spray nozzle, the working pressure of compressed air and other factors).

In case of storage at low temperatures, the primer enamel is kept in a warm room before application (to avoid moisture condensation on the painted surface during painting).

Primer enamel rust, using as a primer under the enamel on the basis of modified alkyd resins, it is recommended to apply in 1-2 layers. When applying two layers of interlayer drying is 10 – 15 minutes at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C. Enamels are recommended to be applied no earlier than after 2 h of drying the primer enamel over rust at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C and relative humidity of air (65 ± 5)%. For long-term storage of metal structures painted with enamel on rust, before applying the enamel, salt, grinding products and other contaminants should be removed from the surface by washing with clean fresh water under high pressure and drying the surface to be coated.

As an independent coating of primer enamel over rust, it is recommended to apply at least 3 layers with interlayer drying for 10–15 minutes at a temperature of (20 ± 2) oC. Drying time to degree 3 at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C and a relative humidity of air (65 ± 5)% of the coating, consisting of three layers of primer-enamel rust, is at least 6 hours.

At lower temperatures and higher relative humidity, the drying time is increased.

The thickness of the dried single-layer coating should be at least 30 microns.

The number of applied layers of primer-enamel rust depends on the equipment used, application technique, personnel qualifications and other factors, but the thickness of the coating should not be less than the thickness recommended by the manufacturer.

Exposure of the coating before operation for at least 7 days.

The consumption of primer enamel  over rust on a single-layer dried coating is 90–105 g / m² without taking into account the complexity of the painted surface, the method of application, color, personnel qualifications and other factors.

Coating service life: Coating  service consisting of three layers of primer-enamel rust, applied to the prepared metal surface, in conditions of UHL1 – not less than 5 years, in conditions of T1 – not less than 2 years. The coating retains its protective and decorative properties while observing the requirements of the TNPA for coating, drying and operating in climate conditions UHL1 and T1.

Storage:  Enamel primer rust should be stored in a tightly closed container, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep away from fire.

Precautionary measures:  Persons associated with paint work must be provided with personal protective equipment (overalls, goggles and rubber gloves). When carrying out painting works, as well as after their completion, it is necessary to air the room thoroughly. The dried coating has no toxic effects on the environment and the human body
