Waterborne primers for wood

Type:  water dispersible primers on wood are available in two grades: VD-AK-057 primer and VD-AK-057 “O” primer, which are a suspension of pigments and fillers in aqueous acrylic dispersion with the introduction of various functional additives.

Scope:  primers are designed for priming and leveling the absorbency of wooden surfaces before the subsequent application of water dispersion paints on wood produced by JSC “Lakokraska”.

Primer VD-AK-057 is designed for priming wooden surfaces using the method of pneumatic, airless spraying, with a brush or roller.

Primer VD-AK-057 “O” is designed for priming wooden surfaces by dipping.

Advantages : primers strengthen porous wooden surfaces, prevent the wood fibers from swelling and improve the appearance of the painted surfaces. Primers help to increase the adhesion of the next layer of paint and varnish materials and reduce its consumption. Primer coatings are easy to grind, and the dust formed during grinding does not clog the sandpaper.

Surface preparation: The  surface to be painted should be dry (wood moisture should be 8–14%), free from oils, dust, wax and other contaminants. Before applying primers, sanding wood surfaces along wood fibers with sanding cloth with grit No. 4 and dedusting. Defects surface zashpatlevyvayut and sand.

Primer application:  Before use, the primer is thoroughly mixed and allowed to stand for 20 minutes to remove air bubbles.

Priming of the prepared products with the VD-AK-057 primer is carried out using the method of pneumatic, airless spraying, with a brush or roller along the wood fibers (in the direction of the pile) with the initial viscosity. If necessary, at the request of the consumer, the primer can be diluted with water (no more than 10% water by weight).

The consumer independently selects the working viscosity depending on the production conditions (ambient temperature in the room, the diameter of the spray nozzle, the working pressure of compressed air, etc.)

Priming of the prepared products with the VD-AK-057 “O” primer is carried out with the initial viscosity by dipping. When dipping manually, for better saturation of the surface with active substances, the parts must be rotated twice in the container.

Drying the primed products at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C and a relative humidity of not more than 65% – at least 2 hours. Before applying the paint, the primed surfaces are kept at a temperature of
(20 ± 2) ° C for at least 2 hours.

Primed products can be dried at a temperature of (35 ± 5) ° C for 1 to 2 hours (depending on the technological parameters of the drying chambers of enterprises) with an exposure of primed products not less than 0.5 hours at a temperature of (20 ± 2) ° C. Dried primer before applying the paint sanding sandpaper number 4 (not allowing the coating of the polishing of the wood) and cleaned of dust.

The consumption of primers  for a single-layer coating is 170 – 350 g / m² without regard to absorbency, surface roughness, its preparation, application method and other factors and is determined by the method of test coloring.

At the end of the work wash the container, tools, stains with soap and water until the primers dry.

It is not allowed to mix primers with other primers and solvents of any type. Hardened residues of primers and empty plastic containers should be disposed of as household waste.

Storage : Primers are stored in closed warehouses at ambient temperatures from plus 5 to plus 35 ° С. Direct sunlight is not allowed. In winter, the primer is transported in insulated transport.

Precautionary measures:  Persons associated with paint work must be provided with personal protective equipment (workwear, goggles, rubber gloves). In case of accidental contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin, rinse with plenty of water.

The dried coating does not have a toxic effect on the human body
